UltraSatan is a hard disk replacement for the Atari ST (and other Atari computers with an ACSI port) that uses SD and/or MMC cards for storage. The UltraSatan includes several improvements over the original SatanDisk project. This new device will be much faster than the original (almost to the limit of ACSI) and is 100% compatible with other ACSI devices. The UltraSatan has two slots for use with SD/SDHC/MMC disks (up to 8GB, acting as two distinct hard drives. As with the original, the UltraSatan will be open source, so if you don't want to buy a ready made device you can always build your own. Peter Hirschberg, who previously created an open source port of the Atari 2600 game Adventure for Windows and Mac OS X titled Adventure: Revisited, has recently released Adventure for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Your goal in Adventure is to locate the Enchanted Chalice and return it to the Golden Castle, all while avoiding the three evil dragons determined to stop your progress! This version of Adventure is faithful to the original 2600 version, complete with sound. However, instead of using a joystick to move your character around, you tilt the screen appropriately (as done in several other iPhone games). To download Adventure for your iPhone or iPod Touch, please follow this link, which will bring you to game's page in the iTunes Store. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

The Houston Area Arcade Group (HAAG) is holding their annual arcade expo on November 7th and 8th at the Crowne Plaza Houston Reliant Park hotel. Admission is $25 for a weekend pass or $15 for a single day, which gets you access to over 100 arcade games and pinball machines all set to free play! You can also participate in arcade and pinball tournaments, win door prizes, try your luck at a game raffle, and partake in the full bar. Will you lead? Find the answer by travelling through the 20 tunnels of Lead, where you'll have to fire at incoming enemies, dodge deadly asteroids, scramble past menacing sentinels and catch wandering satellites to survive, and finally prove to yourself that you can do it. AtariAge and Simone Serra are sponsoring a contest to create original artwork for Simone's latest Atari 2600 homebrew. This label artwork will appear on all copies of Lead, which will be released at the beginning of December. This artwork will also be featured on the cover of the manual created for the game. Paramount Pictures has given the green light for a movie centered around Atari's founder Nolan Bushnell. The movie, to be titled "Atari", is set to feature Leonardo DiCaprio as Nolan Bushnell. Atari was founded by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney in 1972 and the company would become a pioneer in arcade games, home computers, and home video games. Atari became a household name in the late 1970s and early 1980s with their wildly popular Atari 2600 video game console. Nolan Bushnell would later start several other companies after being forced out of Atari, the most successful of which was the Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant chain. "Atari" is being written by Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman, who apparently were able to convince Bushnell that they could "do his unique story justice". No word yet on when this film will reach theaters, but you can bet we'll be keeping a close eye on this one! Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

If you tried visiting AtariAge between Saturday afternoon and today (Monday) around 2:30pm CST, you may have noticed that you could not reach the site. At 4:55pm CST on Saturday there was an electrical explosion at The Planet's data center in Houston where AtariAge's dedicated server is housed. This explosion and resulting fire damaged a significant portion of the building's electrical infrastructure, and all 9,000 servers hosted at this location went offline. Only last night was The Planet able to start restoring power to servers (fortunately none were damaged, nor was anyone injured), with the AtariAge server getting power and network connectivity restored a bit before 3:00pm today. This is, by far, the longest AtariAge has ever been offline since its launch over seven years ago, and hopefully we'll never have to suffer through such an outage again! Update: Yep, the site was unavailable again for an extended period of time, between about 2:45am early Tuesday morning until 5:30pm. Turns out the temporary backup generator that The Planet was using to power "Phase 1" of their Houston data center developed a fault and the generator could not be repaired. It then took some time for them to get another generator on site and operating. Hopefully we'll be online now without further interruptions of this nature. Other hosting options are now being explored. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
