Fans of the popular four-player Atari 2600 game Warlords (itself based on an arcade game of the same name) will be happy to learn that 2600 enthusiast Darrell Spice Jr. is nearly finished with Medieval Mayhem, an updated take on Warlords. While the original version from Atari is still a blast to play, Medieval Mayhem adds arcade features such as the launch dragon, multiple fireballs and a level of polish missing from the original 2600 release. It also includes a menu to select options before starting the game. AtariAge and Darrell Spice Jr. are sponsoring a contest to create original artwork for Medieval Mayhem. This label artwork will appear on all copies of Medieval Mayhem, which will be available through the AtariAge Store. This artwork will also be featured on the cover of the manual created for Medieval Mayhem. The winner of the contest will receive a copy of Medieval Mayhem in cartridge form, featuring their winning label design. The winner will also receive a $50 gift certificate in the AtariAge Store. The contest will run until 11:59pm (CST), Sunday, November 12th, 2006. To learn how to enter, please visit the Medieval Mayhem Label Contest page! Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
Atari2600.com has announced the immediate availability of their latest Atari 5200 release, Boulder Dash. Boulder Dash was a popular Atari 8-bit computer game where your goal was to search underground caves for gems in as short a time as possible. But it's not as easy as it sounds, as you must avoid dangerous boulders, various enemies, and collect enough jewels to open the exit before the timer runs out! The Atari 8-bit version of Boulder Dash has been ported to the 5200 console and is now available for purchase as a limited quantity run of 100 serialized games. Each copy features the game cartridge, full-color instruction manual, and game box (available in four different colors). To learn more and purchase your copy before they're all gone, please visit Atari2600.com. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
For the recent NWCGE Vancouver Show we produced a limited run of cartridges that were sold by NWCGE to help support the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from sales of the cartridges went directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The cartridges were individually numbered with high quality labels, both on the label and in the binary itself. The binary is based on John K. Harvey's "Post It Note" cartridge, and contains a message thanking you for your support in the fight against breast cancer. A single cartridge remains, cartridge #1, and we are auctioning off this cartridge in our forum to the highest bidder. Proceeds from this auction will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Only 20 cartridges were made, and this will be your only opportunity to obtain one if you were not able to attend the NWCGE Vancouver Show. For complete details on how to place your bid, please visit our Atari 2600 Forum. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

Prototype historian Matt Reichert has posted an extensive review over on AtariProtos.com of the long-lost Cloak & Dagger Atari 8-bit computer prototype. Featured prominently in the 1984 movie sharing the same name, the Cloak & Dagger game was visible throughout the movie running on an Atari 5200. Based on the Cloak & Dagger arcade game, work began on an Atari 8-bit computer version of the game but the game market crash of 1984 halted work on the project, and a 5200 version was never started. The version of Cloak & Dagger shown in the movie was of the arcade game, made to appear as if running on an Atari 5200. To learn more, please visit AtariProtos.com. While you're there, you may also want to take a peek at the recently added Rumor Mill section, where you can learn about prototypes that games rumored to exist but have yet to surface in physical form. This past July 27 was the 10th anniversary of the Classic Computer Magazine Archive. In celebration, the site now offers the full text of 19 issues of ST-Log Magazine. This includes more than 600 articles as well as a gallery of the magazine's covers. ST-Log was devoted to Atari's 16-bit ST line of computers, beginning as an insert in ANALOG Computing magazine in 1986. It spun off as a separate magazine for about three years, before being folded back into ANALOG again in 1989. ANALOG and ST-Log were sold to Larry Flynt Publishing in 1988. This Classic Computer Magazine Archive has permission to share the 19 issues published by L.F.P., from April 1988 until ST-Log ceased publication in 1989. In addition, AtariMagazines.com recently added a cover image gallery for Compute! magazine, with a nearly complete collection of covers from 1980 through 1988. (The site offers the full text of nearly 100 issues of Compute!.) The site launched July 27, 1996 as "The Digital Antic Project" with the full text of two issues of Antic magazine. The site was later renamed to The Classic Computer Magazine Archive and added articles from STart, Creative Computing, Compute II, Hi-Res, Creative Computing Video & Arcade Games Magazine, and Tandy Whiz Kids comic books.
