Fresh from releasing the binaries to his 2600 Synthcart and Testcart, Paul Slocum has announced the immediate availability of his latest project, a Sequencer Kit for the 2600. This kit allows you to write music for the 2600 using a pattern based setup, editing note/sequence data on your PC. You can then create a binary file of the song that can then be run in an emulator on the 2600, as well as on a real 2600 using a Supercharger or Cuttle Cart. Those of you who entered the Synthcart Beat Programming Contest will find that the pattern format is the same. For more information, sample songs, and to download the kit, please visit Paul's Sequencer Kit page. You can discuss the Sequencer Kit with Paul and other AtariAge visitors in our Atari 2600 Forum. Good Deal Games has posted an interview with David Crane, co-founder of Activision and creator of the popular Atari 2600 title Pitfall! Here's a brief excerpt where David Crane is asked if the concept for Freeway really originated from his spectating a man trying to cross Lake Shore Drive during rush-hour traffic while attending the Consumer Electronics Show: Absolutely true. Each time I finish a game I look to the real world for inspiration. I was primed for the idea when I saw it, and the product flowed very easily from that point. And no, Frogger was not in the arcades at the time. Both games were developed independently, although we both probably owe some allegiance to Atari's 1970s game "Space Race".
