Randy at Hozer Video Games has announced that he is now taking preorders for Ebvision's latest Atari 2600 game, Power Off!, as well as a contest to help promote the game. Evil Robots have taken control of the computer section of your ship. Deactivate them by tapping out all of the energy nodes before they detect you and roll you over! Hozer will be pre-selling Power Off! until November 1st, at which point he will mass mail the carts to everyone who bought one. The first person to send Hozer a secret message that appears when you finish the game will receive $50 and a game of their choice from Hozer Video. Visit Hozer's Power Off! page for more information. Spurred on by discussions in the Stella Atari 2600 Programming List on how to force the Atari 2600 to generate an interlaced display, programmer Billy Eno (Warring Worms) put together the first binary using this technique, giving double the normal vertical screen resolution on the 2600. This technique allows the Atari 2600 to achieve a resolution of 525 lines vs. 262 that all existing 2600 games have been limited to. Credit for this achievement can be attributed to many participants in the Stella list, but Billy was the first one to demonstrate it on real hardware. A new version of the Atari 2600 emulator z26 has been released with support for two demos that have been written thus far. You can download Billy's demo here, and a demo from Glenn Saunders (along with source) here. In addition, you can view a screen capture of actual TV output of Glenn's demo here, as well as a snapshot of the demo running in z26. You can discuss this achievement with other AtariAge visitors in our Atari 2600 Forum. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

We are proud to bring you the binary for another unreleased Atari 2600 prototype. This time it's for Snow White, a game developed by Atari but never commercially released. This game contains three screens and isn't entirely playable, but it's far enough along (we estimate at around 70%) that you can get a good feel for how the final game would have played. You can download the binary here to try in your favorite Atari 2600 emulator. And you can discuss Snow White with other AtariAge visitors in our Atari 2600 Forum. Electronics engineer Carlos Lopez has revealed his plans to create an Atari 2600 on a single chip. This chip will include the Television Interface Adapter (TIA), 6532 Parallel Interface Adapter (PIA), and the 6507 core, all wrapped up in a single FPGA chip. One of the goals of this project is to allow the manufacture of portable Atari 2600 systems without having to salvage parts from existing 2600 boards (such as the TIA). Please visit Carlos' 2600-on-a-Chip page for more detailed information about the project. You can discuss this project with other AtariAge visitors in our Atari 2600 Forum.
